Harold W. Shelp, Jr., 81, of Milan passed away at 8:10 p.m., Monday, June 17, 2024 at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville. He was born in Madison on November 27, 1942, the son of Harold Sr. and Martha Kirkpatrick Shelp. He was married to Marie Cook on January 7, 1966 and his wife of 58 years survives. Other survivors include one daughter Tammy Cromer of Holton; granddaughter Dreama (Drew) Holton of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; two brothers Ronald Shelp of Milan and Kenny (Karen) Shelp of Westport; one sister Frances (Ronnie) Hensley of Osgood. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter Amy, who passed away on August 29, 2001. Mr. Shelp was a 1960 graduate of Milan High School. He was a 30-year employee of Seagrams where he retired as a lab tech and also helped with the warehouses in Pierceville. He had also worked for Willard Baker Construction. Harold was an Army Veteran, being discharged from the military on July 31, 1967. He was well known in the community for processing deer for local hunters over the last 40 years, and he enjoyed fishing and hunting. Harold was a member of the Moores Hill American Legion. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 22 at 10:30 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles with Randy Thieman officiating. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery at Stumpke’s Corner with military graveside rites by the Moores Hill American Legion. Visitation will be on Friday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the cemetery or the legion in care of the funeral home.
