Harold R. “Hoot” Vonderheide, of Brookville, was born on May 30, 1935 in Brookville, the son of Walter and Marie Wallpe Vonderheide. After graduating high school, he served his country in the United States Army. On April 20, 1963 he married Julianna Schantz at St. Peter’s Church and together they raised four children. Harold was a boiler operator at Romweber’s and a life-long farmer. He was a member of the Bernard Hurst Post #77 Brookville American Legion and St. Michael’s Catholic Church. Harold loved farming, fishing and coon hunting, woodworking and his dogs; he also enjoyed spending time with his family. On Sunday, November 19, 2017 at the age of 82, he passed away at St. Andrews Health Campus in Batesville.
Those surviving who will cherish Harold’s memory include his wife of over 54 years, Julie Vonderheide; son, Bernard (Lisa Hoff-Kawaguchi) Vonderheide of Greensburg; daughters, Edna (Fred) Martini of Brookville, and Willie Ronnebaum of Oldenburg; son, Ed Vonderheide of Brookville; 4 grandchildren, Nathan, Brooklin, Trey and Sarah; 3 great-grandchildren, Xavier, Ryder, and Julianna; Sam the dog, and many other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Irvin, Walter Jr., and Elmer Vonderheide.
Friends may visit with the family on Friday, November 24, 2017 from 4 until 8 p.m. Rosary will be recited at 3:15. Father Sean Danda will celebrate a Mass of Christian burial on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church. Burial with full military honors provided by the Bernard Hurst Post #77 Brookville American Legion will follow in the church cemetery.
