H.S. softball recaps from Wednesday, May 4; Tompkins sets Raider record

The following are high school softball recaps from Wednesday, May 4.  All games are varsity unless noted otherwise.  There may be updates, so please check back.

South Ripley picked up a big 2-1 conference win over Switzerland County.

The Raiders Mady Tompkins pitched a complete game with a school record 18 strikeouts.  She allowed just three hits and two walks.  Switz pitcher Lily Sparks gave up just five hits, struck out six and walked none.

On the offensive side, Ripley’s Ellie Waldron and Alexa Heidt both doubled.  Heidt and Brooklyn Brown had an RBI each.  Maddie Duvall had two hits and the only RBI for Switz.

The Raiders and Shiners are at the top of the ORVC with one loss each. The Pacers fall a game behind after suffering their second.

Rising Sun beat Southwestern 8-5.

The Shiners Cora Poling had three hits with a home run and three RBI.  Sydney Halloran singled and doubled with two ribbies.

For the Rebels, Ashley Fulton tallied three hits and Morgan Mahoney plated three runs.

Connersville edged Franklin County 8-7.  The Wildcats came back from a 5-1 deficit to go up 6-5, but the Spartans scored three times in the top of the seventh to overtake the hosts.  CHS had only six hits but benefitted from seven walks and a couple of Wildcat errors.

Kindred Conley had the only multi-hit game for the Fayette County ladies.  Conley and Carmen Ruble both batted in two runs.  Sara Ruble and Bre Brock both had a hit and an RBI.

For the Cats, Kensee Ferman singled and homered (3-run) with five RBI.  Maci Lake had a pair of singles and one ribbie.

Connersville and East Central remain the only undefeated teams in the EIAC.

In a JV game, Connersville nipped Franklin County 2-1.   The Spartans took advantage of Wildcat errors which led to both runs.

Franklin County pitcher Bella Lee allowed only three hits and struck out five in the tough luck loss.  At the plate for the FC JV, Annie Hoff singled twice and Lillie Graff had the team’s only RBI.

North Decatur got by Knightstown 6-5. The Chargers Keesha Crosland doubled in the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth.

Crosland had three hits and was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts. Teammates Sarah Swain, Kayln Muckerhide and Kennedy Stier had two hits each.

Jalyn Kopp and Shyann Lee both posted two hits for the Panthers.
