Grote, Bob

Robert “Bob” Grote passed away peacefully Thursday, April 30, 2020 at the age of 71. Formerly of Cincinnati, Bob and his wife, Kathy, moved to Hidden Valley to provide a quieter life for their two daughters, Lisa & Sheri. Upon first meeting Kathy at work, Bob had to beat out several other guys for a chance to ask her out. 49 ½ years later, Kathy was still the love of his life. Prior to getting married, Bob joined the United States Army and fought in the Vietnam War from November 1969 – June 1970. Bob was a patriot and loved his country, but his first love was his family. He was a laid back, calm & quiet man until his favorite day, April Fool’s Day, rolled around. He loved to laugh and tell jokes and was quite the prankster with his family and friends. One of Bob’s favorite hobbies was fishing and was something that he loved to do with his dad and his best friend. Although he enjoyed fishing at Hidden Valley Lake, Bob loved to travel Lake Michigan, the Maumee River and Lake Erie for salmon, walleye, trout and bass. He could always count on his mom to fix any fish they brought home. Bob also took martial arts and earned several belts in Taekwondo. He  was a member of the NRA, the Disabled American Veterans, Reiki Masters and led Junior Achievement classes. After retiring, Bob found his greatest work was to be done with Hospice of Cincinnati. It was here that he felt he could truly help people, including so many veterans in the hospitals. Bob was also a very spiritual man and was proud to become a Reiki Master which became a big part of his life. Again, Bob focused his life on helping others. Through Reiki, he was able to channel positive energy and peace not only to those near him, but people all over the world.

Bob will be greatly missed by his wife Kathy, his daughters Lisa (Brian) White of Yorkville and Sheri Grote of Bright, his five grandchildren Katelyn, Emily, Andrew, Cole & Caylee, his mother Anna Grote and his sister Mary Ann Klein. He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Grote and brother, John A. Grote.
