Greensburg Volleyball gets tough EIAC win over Batesville

Greensburg Volleyball traveled to Batesville Monday and defeated the Bulldogs 3-1 in a conference match: 26-24, 26-28, 25-16 and 25-16.

“We started off making a lot of serve reception errors and were making it very difficult on ourselves,” said Greensburg coach June Rigney.  “Batesville is a strong serving team and they dominated that portion of the match at the beginning. We were able to make some adjustments, pass the ball and run some offense as the match progressed.”

“Strong and efficient serving came from Kayla Kelso who was 17-17 with 4 aces,” noted Rigney.  “The timing of her accurate serving was key for us. Also serving well was Janae Comer who was 23-23 with 2 aces and Jenna Foster, 17-17 with 1 ace. At the net, we did a nice job of spreading the offense, but in the end, Ella Chapman led us with 12 kills followed by Josie Nobbe with 10, Carlee Adams 7, Claire Nobbe 6 and Comer with 5. Chapman also made her presence known connecting on 8 blocks. Defensively, Abigail Hoeing had 13 digs and Christina Fogg had 12.”

Rigney added, “I was proud of the way our girls fought through the adversity. There were times we were not playing well, but they adjusted and turned it around. Batesville is a solid team. It was a good win for us. We are now 16-5 overall and 2-2 in the conference.”
