Greensburg man locked up following two-county vehicle chase

DECATUR/RUSH COUNTIES, IN — A Greensburg man is behind bars following a vehicle pursuit that began in Rush County and ended in the Tree City.

Greensburg Police said dispatchers informed officers in Decatur County around 1:10 pm on Wednesday, January 12 that a vehicle pursuit that started in Rush County was heading south on State Road 3 into the county.

Stop sticks were deployed by Greensburg officers Stephen Hershberger and Devin Moore on 3 at County Road 600 North, while Decatur County Sheriff’s Sergeant John Organist and Sheriff Dave Durant put another set out further down the road.

Other officers assisted by blocking intersections to help keep citizens safe.

The stop sticks were effective in deflating the tires on the suspect’s vehicle, which stopped on State Road 3 between Lincoln and Broadway streets.

Investigators said the driver took off on foot but was caught a short time later.

He was identified as James D. Imel of Greensburg.

Imel was taken to the Rush County Jail.

In addition to the Greensburg Police Department and the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office, other agencies involved in the investigation include the Rushville Police Department and the Rush County Sheriff’s Office.
