(Greensburg, IN) – The City of Greensburg has launched “On the Job,” a new public education series designed to give residents a closer look at the everyday work of municipal government and the employees who make it possible.
City officials say the purpose of “On the Job” is to bring greater visibility to the specialized responsibilities, essential services and often-overlooked tasks that keep Greensburg operating – the ordinary work that makes an extraordinary difference.
Through photos, videos, and employee features shared on the City’s official social media platforms and website, the series will feature employees across City departments, highlighting the routine maintenance, preparation, problem-solving and often-overlooked tasks that are fundamental to municipal operations.
While these responsibilities may seem like ordinary parts of the job, each plays an important role in the City’s daily operation and services that residents depend on, according to officials.
Inspired by “The Ordinary and the Extraordinary”
The idea for On the Job was further inspired by The Ordinary and the Extraordinary, a video presented by Accelerate Indiana Municipalities (Aim) during its September 2026 Aim Ideas Summit.
The video recognizes the work municipal employees perform during ordinary days and extraordinary circumstances, from maintaining essential services to responding to emergencies and natural disasters.
That message helped reinforce the City’s vision for a series that brings the same perspective directly to Greensburg.
While emergencies and major projects often draw public attention, the ordinary work happening between those moments is equally deserving of recognition.
On the Job takes that message a step further by documenting specific tasks performed by Greensburg employees and explaining their importance.
The city hopes to demonstrate that what may be routine to a municipal employee can be extraordinary in its value to the people who depend on it.
First Series Feature: Preparing for Improvements at the Wastewater Treatment Plant
Among the series’ first features is a look inside the City’s Wastewater Treatment Plant, where employees are preparing two aging final clarifiers for complete upgrades (pictured).
The work includes taking the clarifiers out of service, cleaning them and preparing the structures for LiDAR scanning, which provides precise measurements needed to plan the improvements.
Final clarifiers play an important role in the wastewater treatment process by separating remaining solids from treated water.
While cleaning and preparing these structures may not be a task most residents associate with municipal government or wastewater operations, the work represents specialized maintenance and planning required to keep essential infrastructure operating.
Future features will continue across City departments, showcasing
Recognizing the People Behind Public Service
City leaders say, at its core, On the Job is about the people.
Many City employees are members of the same community they serve. They are neighbors, family members volunteers and residents who take pride in their work and the place they call home.
Their responsibilities may differ from department to department, but each contribute to the City’s abilities to provide dependable services, maintain
Through On the Job, the City of Greensburg hopes to give residents a closer look at the often-overlooked details of municipal work while recognizing the dedication of the employees who carry it out.
Because the work that keeps the city running doesn’t always make headlines. Sometimes, it’s simply part of the job.
The On the Job series will continue through 2027, with features shared on the City of Greensburg’s official social media platforms and website.
