Greensburg Junior High hosted the first annual Decatur County Junior High Cross Country Championships on Saturday, August 17th. Greensburg, North Decatur, South Decatur and Saint Marys cross country teams competed against one another on the sunny morning among the bean fields of the GES 3K course. The Greensburg Lady Pirates earned the 2024 Decatur County Team Championship while the St Mary’s Knights won the boys’ team race. Two Greensburg runners, Madeline Risher and Jackson Tekulve, were both crowned the 2024 Individual Decatur County Champions of their perspective races.
Girls Individual Champion Madeline Risher led the Lady Pirates in their victory with a time of 12:11.9. A wave of Pirate Blue crossed the finish line behind Risher as the Greensburg Girls captured 6 of the top 9 spots all earning All County Awards. Eleanor Davis (2nd), Maria Scholle (3rd), Lulu Bell (4th), Hadley Davis (8th), and Kate McNulty (9th) all earned a podium spot for All County recognition and scored a remarkable low score of 18 points ahead of St. Mary’s girls 2nd place team of 39 points.
Jackson Tekulve took the lead early in the boys’ race and won the event with a time of 12:16.4 as the Boys County Champion. Joining Tekulve on the awards stage included All County Award winners Oliver Corya in 4th and Kason Bedel in 8th. The Greensburg Gents scored 34 points earning them 2nd place as a team behind St Mary’s 23 points and ahead of South Decatur’s 80 points. Luke Harris, Miles Gill, and Konner Luers all ran career personal record times during the race. Hadley Davis also set a new PR during the Girls Race on Saturday.
