INDIANAPOLIS – Greensburg High School graduate Alex Meyer is on the path toward pitching in Major League Baseball.
The highly rated prospect is in the Minnesota Twins organization pitching for Triple-A affiliate Rochester Red Wings.
His team is at Victory Field in Indianapolis this weekend and Meyer will take the mound Saturday at 7:05 p.m.
The game could be the last opportunity to see the former Pirate pitch before he is in a big league uniform. This season he has pitched 22 games and has the 3.05 ERA, the sixth highest in the International League.
The 2008 high school graduate later went on to dominate at the University of Kentucky. He was drafted in the 1st round by the Washington Nationals in 2011 and was ultimately traded to the Twins.
Meyer spent a portion of this past off-season as a substitute teacher at Greensburg High School.
