The Greensburg girls’ basketball team got off to an early start and used that to propel them to a sectional championship Saturday night. The Pirates turned a six-point halftime lead into a 19-point win, defeating Batesville 41-22 at Lawrenceburg. Leah West was the only player in the game to score in double figures, tallying 11 points. Greensburg held Batesville to 27% shooting, including 0-9 from the three-point arc. The Pirates forced 21 turnovers in the game. This is the first sectional championship for girls’ basketball since the 2019-20 season. It is the fourth sectional championship under coach Jason Simpson. The Pirates will play Class 3A No. 9 Scottsburg on Saturday in the regional. Locations and times for regional sites are still to be announced.
