(Greensburg, IN) – The Greensburg Fire Department (GFD) and Mayor Joshua Marsh were honored on Friday evening (September 15) by the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association at the annual Indiana Emergency Response Conference in Indianapolis.
A panel of four judges representing the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association: Wellness-Fitness Committee Member, Public Safety Medical, Indiana Association of Cities and Towns, and the Professional Fire Fighters Union of Indiana evaluate applicants for the LIFE Award (Leadership in Fitness Excellence).
GFD was awarded as the runner-up for the LIFE Award, and the award was given in recognition of GFD’s exemplary efforts to improve our firefighters’ safety, physical health, and mental well-being.
The award was accepted on behalf of GFD by Captain Dave Eckstein and Fire Chief Nathan Stoermer.
“Greensburg Fire has worked diligently the last four years to improve upon our physical and mental wellness programs. Working in public safety is dangerous, and we must do what we can to help our firefighters remain physically and mentally well. This award is a testament to the dedication of our department,” said Chief Stoermer. “It’s not just an honor for us, but a promise to our community.”
Mayor Marsh was also named the Elected Official of the Year by the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association. This award is given to an elected official who demonstrates unwavering support for local public safety through legislation, projects, outreach initiatives, and more.
Mayor Marsh was nominated due to historic investments in the Greensburg Fire Department with the construction of a new fire station and the purchase of a new fire truck.
Marsh was also recognized for his ardent support for public safety through the promotion and organization of the Public Safety Community Cookout series, an outreach initiative that began in 2021 to connect the community with our first responders in a positive environment.
“I am honored to receive this award from the Indiana Fire Chiefs Association,” said Mayor Marsh. “This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our first responders, who tirelessly serve our city day in and day out. Together, we are committed to creating a safe and thriving environment for all. This honor is a reflection of our collective efforts, and I am grateful to be a part of such a dedicated team.”
