Greensburg, In. — Thomas Guy Sibbitt, 86, of Greensburg passed away on December 21, 2017. He was born at home in rural Carroll County, Indiana, on September 20, 1931.
He was the son of Larry “Guy” and Glyde (Eikenberry) Sibbitt. He attended Bringhurst Methodist Church as a child and graduated from Cutler High School in 1949. Tom worked on his family farm until he went to Purdue University. He was a member of the Acacia Fraternity and even tried out for the basketball team while at Purdue, but an injury kept him from making the team. His love for sports followed him all throughout his life as he still actively attended many Purdue football and basketball games over the years. After graduating from Purdue, Tom enlisted in the United States Army. While in the military he met his future wife Joan Peterson and they married March 26, 1955 together they had 4 children: Lisa, Tina, Tim, and Paula. Joan preceded him in death in 1986. Tom moved to Greensburg and started his life here in 1960 when he started Sibbitt-Mann Chevrolet dealership and he eventually became the only owner and it became Tom Sibbitt Chevrolet. On May 18, 1991 he married Nancy Redmon, she survives. Tom was a member of many organizations and supported many non for profits over the years in the Greensburg area. He was the past president of the Chamber of Commerce, a member of the John Purdue Club of Lafayette, Decatur County Bank Board of Directors, Kiwanis, Decatur County Fair Board, and many others over the years.
Survivors include: Wife- Nancy Sibbitt; Daughters- Lisa Sibbitt and Paula (Kevin Fleetwood) Sibbitt; Sons- Tim Sibbitt, Peter (Petra) Gillies, David (Julie) Gillies; Sisters- Martha Lou Church and Jeanne Lougheed; Grandchildren-Caleb, Patience, and Taber Busche, Danielle and Weston Sparks, and Tye and Claire Fleetwood. He also was preceded in death by his Daughter- Tina Sibbitt.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Gilliland Howe Funeral Home on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at 2:00 PM. Rev. Dan Richwine will be officiating. Visitation will follow the funeral on Saturday until 6:00 pm. Burial will be at the Mapel Lawn Cemetery in Flora, Indiana.
