(Greensburg, IN) – Two Greensburg police officers were recognized for actions above and beyond the call, and another took the oath at this week’s Board of Works meeting.

Sgt. Jacob Mays and Officer John Amis were presented Meritorious Service Awards for their actions during a high-risk arrest on Thanksgiving night, November 27, 2025.

Officer Amis was also awarded a Purple Heart after he suffered a hand injury in the line of duty while on that call.

It’s believed to be the first Purple Heart awarded in the history of the Greensburg Police Department.

Both officers were nominated for those honors by Captain Wayne Davis, who made the presentations.

And a new patrolman was sworn in at the meeting.

Officer Robert Runstrom took the oath from Mayor Joshua Marsh (pictured).

Runstrom joined the force earlier this year.

The ceremony marked his official swearing in as a GPD officer.
