George William Niemeyer, 85

George William Niemeyer, 85, of Stuart, FL, formerly of Aurora, Indiana, passed away Friday, April 21, 2023.

He was born November 2, 1937, in Utica, NY, the son of the late John Niemeyer and Dorothy (Wheelock) Niemeyer.
George was a very patriotic man. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army and National Guard, serving at Fort Knox. He served as Past Commander of both the Dillsboro and Aurora American Legions. He was a member of the VFW, Korean War Veterans, and the 40 and 8.

He worked as a supervisor for Monsanto, retiring after over 34 years of service.

George enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and traveling. He loved his family, especially his grandchildren, and he will be greatly missed.

George is survived by his sons, John Raymond (Jodie) Niemeyer of Palm City, FL, and Michael Lee Niemeyer of Allen Park, MI; grandchildren, Megan, Noah, and Jordan Niemeyer; two step-children BJ Wright of Macon NC and Paul (Janet)Bunnell of Mandeville, LA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Dorothy Niemeyer; and his loving wife, JoAnn Niemeyer.

Friends will be received Saturday, May 20, 2023, 11:00 am – 2:00 pm at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, 219 Mechanic Street, Aurora, Indiana.

Services will be held at the funeral home at 2:00 pm with Pastor Richard Kolasky officiating.

Interment will follow in the River View Cemetery, Aurora, IN. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Southeastern Indiana Honor Guard.
Contributions may be made to the American Legion Post 231, River View Cemetery Association, or the Hillforest Historical Society.
