George Conn

George A. Conn, 91 years old, of St. Leon, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024, surrounded by his three children. A native of Cincinnati, George and his family moved to St. Leon in 1977. As a veteran of the United States Army, (Korean War) George became very involved with the St. Joseph American Legion Post 464. He used his skills as a meat cutter to help with the whole hog and pancake breakfast the legion famously hosts throughout the year. George was a sailor at heart and would take his 25’ Catalina out any day that it was above 50 degrees and the winds were at least 5mph. Once aboard the Kel-Kev-An on Brookville Lake, George was free of life’s stresses and enjoyed every minute of it with his daughter, Anne, as his first mate.  George made it a goal to sail several times during the week with his friend, Jim. He even sailed on his 90th birthday weekend. In addition to sailing, George loved deep sea fishing, and enjoyed fishing out of his stocked pond just as much. A big Nascar fan, George and his son, Kevin, enjoyed making the trip to Kentucky Speedway for a day of racing. Travelling was high on George’s list of likes and he joined his daughter, Kelly, on trips to the Outer Banks while he and his wife, Anne, enjoyed visiting St. Augustine. St. Augustine held a special place within their hearts and they went there with the family a couple times a year.  Later in life George and his kids enjoyed vacationing as a family as often as they could.  George met Anne while they were both instructors at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio. Music and dancing continued to be a big part of their lives and they would go dancing as often as they could. Moonlight Gardens was one of their favorite spots where they would listen to music and dance the night away.

George will be deeply missed by his children, Anne (Dennis) Saxton, Kevin Conn and Kelly (Travis) Baker; his faithful companion and best friend – his dog Archie; grandchildren Mathew and Andrew Saxton; brother Gary Conn; several nieces & nephews and many dear friends. George is preceded in death by his wife Anne Conn; siblings James Conn, Audrey Conn, Anthony Conn, Earl Conn, Elsie Liebisch; and parents Calista & Anthony Conn.
