Gary U. Meyer, age 69 of Batesville, Indiana, passed away Monday, September 25, 2023, at St. Andrew’s Health Campus in Batesville. Born December 10, 1953, in Batesville, he is the son of Marie (Nee: Hartman) and Victor Meyer. He married Sue Meyer on October 25, 1986, at St. Mary’s of the Rock Catholic Church in Batesville. Gary was a Production Floor Scheduler for the Hill-Rom Company for 36 years, before retiring in 2008.
Gary had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, and farming with his brothers. He was a member of the Tri-County Conservation Club and a proud member of the NRA. He also enjoyed and took pride in his yardwork which was evidenced by the meticulous way he cared for the grounds around his home and pond.
Gary was very loyal to his church and along with being a lifelong member he also planted and cared for the flowers around St. Mary’s of the Rock Church and maintained the grounds for many years. He also served on the church council and managed hall rentals for quite a long time.
Gary loved his pickup trucks and owned a few over the years. He took pride in maintaining them and had a reputation for having sharp-looking, clean, and shiny vehicles.
He was an avid NASCAR fan and attended several races years ago but recently enjoyed watching them on TV.
You would often find Gary wearing a baseball hat and he reportedly has a collection of over 200 of them. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially the Reds, Bengals, IU, and Notre Dame Football.
His family says he was not a “picky eater” as he liked almost everything Sue made especially the desserts.
One of Gary & Sue’s favorite places to travel was Gatlinburg, TN. He loved his wife, siblings, nieces & nephews, and great nieces & nephews and was happy when any of them could join them on a trip to Tenn.
Sue and the family wish to express their gratitude to the staff and caregivers at St. Andrew’s Health campus as well as the Staff at Margaret Mary Health Hospice for all the love and care they provided to Gary.
He is survived by his wife Sue of Batesville; sisters and brothers-in-law Grace (Arthur) Schneider of Batesville, Yvonne (Ronald) Schneider of Sunman, Indiana, Mary Louise (Richard Cartwright) Meyer of Oldenburg, Indiana, Eileen(Tim) Duff of Spokane, Washington, Carolyn (Dale) Sorber of Rushville, Indiana and Susan (Brad) Everage of Shelbyville, Kentucky; brothers and sisters-in-law Eugene (Karen) Meyer of Brookville, Indiana, Joe (April) Meyer, John (Linda) Meyer and Jerome (Nancy) Meyer, all of Batesville, sisters-in-law Marlene Meyer of Greensburg and Berna Meyer of Batesville; numerous nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers Dennis and Roy Meyer, and nieces and nephews Nathan Meyer, Emily Meyer, Maria Duff, and Joseph Duff.
Visitation is Thursday, September 28th, from 9 – 11:30 a.m., at St. Mary’s of the Rock Church in St. Mary’s, Indiana. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:30 a.m. at the church, with Fr. Carl Langenderfer OFM officiating. The burial will be in the church cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the St. Mary’s of the Rock Preservation Fund or the Parkinson’s Foundation.
