Franklin County gals defend well in victory over Bulldogs

Tuesday on the Sports Voice, the Franklin County Lady Wildcats won their third straight game with a 44-22 doubling of Batesville.  The win also snapped a six-game losing streak for the host Cats against the Bulldogs.

At the end of the first half, Franklin County led Batesville 16-3.  The Bulldogs were held to just three charity tosses.  Kassidy Schell had eight points for the Wildcats.

Calley Kaiser finally hit Batesville’s first field goal with 6:44 left in the third quarter.  However, an aggressive Franklin County defense continued to stifle the BHS offense.  The Wildcats increased their lead to 24-6 at the third stop.

In the fourth, Batesville’s offense finally came alive and got as close as 11, but the Cats closed out the night with 11 straight points to win by 22.

Kassidy Schell, who took several major spills in the game, finished with a hard-earned 16 points for the Cats.  Teammates Josie Rolfes, Jenna Bruns and Alex Gillman all had five.

Calley Kaiser led the Dogs with seven points.  Sarah Ripperger turned in five.

Franklin County held Batesville to just 12 percent shooting and the Wildcats converted 12 of 16 shots at the stripe.

Batesville won the JV game 33-31 in overtime.

Ava Hansen hit the game winning shot with six seconds left.  She scored nine.  Teammate Annie Negovetich had eight.

Bailey Kaiser put in 11 points for the FC reserves and Madison Sunderhaus contributed eight.
