Francis “Lorraine” Walton, 87, Rising Sun

Francis “Lorraine” Walton, 87 of Rising Sun, IN passed away Tuesday, May 9th after a short illness. Her family was by her side as the Lord called her home. Lorraine was born September 27, 1935, to Elias (Bud) and Wilma Gullion Ballard, of Florence, Indiana. She was the 6th child out of seven and spent her early years attending Florence and Patriot School Districts.She married the love of her life, Benjamin Garfield Walton. They were married on December 24th, 1952 and their home was blessed with three children; Saundra, Steve, and Gene. Garfield and Lorraine were happily married until his passing, on February 22, 2011. Lorraine began her career in 1956 as a car hop for Frisch’s Restaurant. Later she was named Manager of the Lawrenceburg location and after 43 years, she retired in 1993.Lorraine was a devoted mother and grandmother. Any event her grandkids were in, she would be on the front row cheering them on, even her great-grandchildren and she was proud of them all. She was a wonderful cook and baker. Her meatloaf, potato salad, and bundt cakes were a family favorite. Her best friend was her sister, Laverne Hayes. They were affectionately known by everyone. Regularly called the “sisters who made you hoot and holler” with their funny antics. Their love and devotion to caring for one another was obvious.Lorraine is survived by her children: Saundra and Kenny Stanley, Steve, and Debbie Walton, and Gene and Lisa Walton, Rising Sun, IN. Grandchildren: Amber and Butch Johnson, Dana Walton, and Dawn and Jason Walcott, Rising Sun, IN; Steve and Whittney Walton, Cincinnati, OH, Alesha Stanley and Andrew Clapp, Sunman, IN; Gina and Brent Bascom, Osgood, IN; Shanda Walton, Aaron Thom, Milan, IN, and Jodi and Todd Baker, Seymour, IN. Great Grandchildren: Logan, Noah, Jordon, Jacob, and Josh Johnson; Wyatt Walton, Loralei Housemeyer, Alayna and Alyssa Walcott, Rising Sun, IN; Roman, Wynne, and Wren Walton, Cincinnati, OH; Dalton, Emma, and Reed Traue, Aurora, IN; Megan and Mason Bascom, Osgood, IN; Allen and Jaylee Baker, Seymour, IN; Chase, Brenden and Kaityln Stanley, Kentucky. One sister, Laverne Hayes, Rising Sun, IN, and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death: Her parents, Elias Bud and Wilma Gullion Ballard, her husband, Benjamin Garfield Walton, Grandson Brian Stanley, her brothers; Raymond and Norman Ballard, her sisters; Ruth Kelly, Hazel Eldridge and Evelyn Hon.Public graveside services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, May 12th, 2023 at the Rising Sun New Cemetery.
