Francis “Frank” Schoettmer, 87, passed away peacefully at his home in Decatur County, Indiana on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
Frank was born on April 25, 1939, to Bernard and Martha (Miller) Schoettmer. After graduating from high school, Frank proudly served his country in the United States Army. Following his military service, he began a long career with Standard Fertilizer, where he worked as a truck driver for 40 years before retiring.
On July 3, 1964, Frank married Ellen “Snooky” Washburn. The two shared nearly 48 years of marriage until her passing on April 10, 2012.
Frank enjoyed many things throughout his life, but he especially loved riding horses and attending dirt track races.
Frank is survived by his sons, Lawrence (Melissa) Schoettmer and Jeffery (Penny) Schoettmer; granddaughter, Grace (Bill) Wagner; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Martha Schoettmer; his wife, Ellen “Snooky” Schoettmer; and his daughter, Tammy Humpert.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at Porter-Oliger-Pearson Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial, with military honors, will take place at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Greensburg.
