Frances Ann Metcalf was called to her heavenly home on Sunday May 19th. Sweet-spirited and strong, loving and loved, she was a ray of sunshine in this world. Frannie was born in Kentucky and raised in Indiana, the daughter of Esther and McKinley Duff. She had three brothers, David, Bill, and Lary, and her doting daddy liked to joke that she was his “little failure.” With her older brothers running off any boys who tried to talk to her, it was practically a miracle that one snuck in through the cracks. At the age of 16, Frances married Elman Metcalf. The couple moved to Mims, Florida, in 1962, with their baby son in tow. After 65 years of marriage, Elman preceded Frances in death by less than three months. Fran earned her GED diploma at the age of 47. Over the years she worked as a waitress, a bank teller, a bookkeeper, and a real estate agent. Frannie must have been an excellent bookkeeper because she would quit every summer to enjoy the beach and JC Penney would re-hire her every fall Fran loved growing beautiful flowers, playing tennis, caring for children, and giggling with friends and family How beautiful heaven must be now!
Frances is survived by her son Rocky (wife Lili), grandsons McKinley (wife Morgan) and Colson (wife Mackenzie), great- grandsons Brooks and Wade, brothers David (wife Judy) and Lary (wife Connie), and beloved sisters-in-law, brothers-in law, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends.
Graveside services will be conducted Friday, May 31, 2024, 10:30 A.M., at Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville, Indiana. The staff of Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home are honored to serve the Metcalf family.
