(Greensburg, IN) – The Hospital Foundation of Decatur County has provided $31,225 to fund four new infusion chairs at Decatur County Memorial Hospital (DCMH), helping create a more comfortable and supportive experience for patients receiving care in the hospital’s Cancer Care & Infusion Center.
Infusion treatments can take several hours, and some patients return regularly for treatment over weeks or months.
For those patients, having a comfortable, supportive place to receive that care can make a meaningful difference in their experience.
“Our clinical team knows our patients and understands what can make their care more comfortable andsupportive,” said Mandy Lohrum, Director of the Hospital Foundation of Decatur County. “When our team identifies a need like this, they come to the Foundation, and our donors help make it possible. We’re grateful to our clinical team for the care they provide every day and to our donors who make investments like this possible for patients.”
With patient safety and clinical care in mind, the new power recliners are designed to give patients and caregivers greater flexibility throughout treatment.
The chair can be adjusted to meet a patient’s needs, while features such as heat, massage, a footrest, and an attached table can provide additional comfort.
Swing-away arms also make it easier for patients and caregivers to access the chair.
“We are so grateful to have these new chairs for our patients,” said Erin Alloway, DCMH Cancer Care Manager. “When a patient may spend several hours with us, being able to adjust their position and get comfortable can help them feel more relaxed during their treatment.”
The chairs will serve patients receiving chemotherapy and other cancer treatments, as well as those receiving non-cancer-related infusion therapies.
“We want our patients to feel cared for from the moment they arrive,” said Kristol Hadler, DCMH Executive Director, Nursing and Operations. “The Hospital Foundation’s investment helps us provide an environment that supports our patients while giving our team the tools they need to deliver exceptional care.”
Made possible through donor support, the new chairs are one example of how the Hospital Foundation partners with DCMH to enhance patient care and help keep high-quality healthcare close to home.
