Forrest D. Smith, age 89, of Brookville, Indiana died Thursday, June 2, 2016 at McCullough Hyde Memorial Hospital in Oxford, Ohio.
Born December 6, 1926 in Franklin County, Indiana he was the son of the late Robert & Sarah (Reese) Smith. He was a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served as an Aviation Radioman. On November 12, 1948 he was united in marriage to the former Reva Imogene Lockard, and she preceded him in death on September 20, 2011.
Forrest retired in 1989 from the Farm Bureau Co-Op in Brookville, where he had served as the General Manager for over 30 years. In his leisure time he enjoyed hunting & fishing and being outdoors.
Survivors include a daughter, Penny Harsh of Brookville, Indiana; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three sisters, Dorothy Riley of Converse, Texas, June (Joe) Turco of Hamilton, Ohio and Claudia (Melvin) Hertel of Brookville, Indiana; one brother, Jim (Maria) Smith of Greenwood, Indiana.
Besides his parents and wife, Jean, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Sue Byrd, a son, Ricky Dale Smith Sr., a granddaughter, Alisha Lynn Toole; four sisters, Lettie Powers, Oceola Browning, Audrey Phillips, Leona Allen; two brothers, William Smith and Leonard “Dutch” Smith.
Family & friends may visit from 12:00 Noon until 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home, 1025 Franklin Avenue, Brookville.
Mike Haviland will officiate the Funeral Services at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Phillips & Meyers Funeral Home in Brookville. Burial will follow with full military graveside honors by the Bernard Hurst Post #77 of the American Legion, in Maple Grove Cemetery in Brookville, Indiana.
