Bloomington, IN — Former U.S. Senators Evan Bayh and Dan Coats are joining Indiana University.
Bayh has been appointed to the university as a Distinguished Scholar and Executive-At-Large and will join the Paul H. O’Neil School of Public Health and Environmental Affairs.
Coats will serve as a Distinguished Scholar and Ambassador-At-Large, and join the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies.
The pair will work together on the university’s new, joint one-year master’s degree program in international affairs.
Bayh, a Democrat, was a two-term Indiana Governor from 1989 to 1997 and served two terms in the U.S. Senate from 1999 to 2011.
Coats, a Republican, represented Indiana in the U.S. Congress from 1981 to 1989. He was appointed to the U.S. Senate in 1989 and served there until 1999, and again from 2011 to 2017. Coats also served as Director of National Intelligence from 2017 to 2019.
