DECATUR COUNTY, IN — Former Decatur County Detention Center Deputy Colton Lee Roberts (pictured) has received a three-year sentence from  Superior Court Judge Matthew Bailey after pleading guilty to Sexual Misconduct (Level 5 felony) and Official Misconduct (Level 6 felony).

According to a Probable Cause Affidavit, Roberts was accused of having sexual contact with a female inmate in August of 2020.

Judge Bailey sentenced the 24-year-old Roberts to two years in prison and one year of probation.

Decatur County Chief Deputy Prosecutor Doug Brown presented the case on behalf of the State of Indiana, and the victim testified at the sentencing hearing.

“Our system of justice depends upon trusting that inmates are safe when they are in custody. Their liberty is already sacrificed, and we must protect the accused from harm whenever possible,” said Decatur County Prosecutor Nate Harter. “Here, an employee of the Sheriff’s Department abused his power and sexually assaulted an inmate. I am grateful that the victim was heard and that the court agreed that prison is appropriate accountability for what the defendant did.”
