(Clark County, IN) – Former Clark County Sheriff Jamey Noel has pleaded guilty to 27 of 31 felony counts stemming from a massive corruption case.
He entered into the plea deal with Special Prosecutor Ric Hertel of Ripley County.
Noel was charged with more than two dozen felonies for allegedly misusing money from fire and EMS departments he oversaw.
He admitted in Clark County Circuit Court to theft, money laundering, corrupt business influence, official misconduct, obstruction of justice and tax evasion charges.
Four counts of ghost employment were dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
Noel faces 15 years in prison with three of those suspended to probation if the special judge in the case accepts the plea deal.
The disgraced former sheriff would also have to pay more than $3.1 million in restitution.
Noel’s jury trial was scheduled to begin in November.
The judge has taken the plea deal under advisement and is expected to issue a ruling soon.
