Former basketball pro, inspirational leader speaks at St. Louis

Batesville, In. — The Coalition for a Drug-Free Batesville brought author, Chad Varga to talk to sixth-grade students recently. The students read Varga’s book, “Bounce” as an assignment in Mrs. Giestling’s Literature class.

Through his literary work, Varga helps children develop confidence to overcome obstacles. Varga learned those lessons growing up in an abusive home.

Against all odds, the high school All-American from Detroit’s Catholic went on to star at the University of Pittsburgh where he was a two-time captain and Bell Atlantic Scholar-Athlete As a pro in Europe, Varga was an all-star and won the slam-dunk contest his rookie season. He left the game at the height of his career to help others conquer their challenges and succeed.
