(Lawrenceburg, IN) – Forty-five-year-old Mohammed Mondal of Bright has been formally charged in Dearborn County with Murder and two counts of Neglect of a Dependent in the shooting death of his wife Stacy late Monday morning.

According to court documents, the couple was having marital problems, and Mohammed Mondal believed his wife was having an affair.

An investigation determined Mondal allegedly shot his 40-year-old wife Stacy seven times in their vehicle, which he was driving.

The Mondals were heading to an appointment to have their photos taken with two of the youngest of their five children, ages 14 months and five months. The children were riding in the back seat of the vehicle when Mondal allegedly shot his wife.

Court documents indicate Mondal told investigators that Stacy hit him in the head with a cell phone and then reached for a gun in the open center console when he opened fire with a 9 mm he had on his person.

Mondal called local law enforcement to report the shooting and at first said he accidentally shot his wife. He then reportedly told investigators he shot her in self-defense.

Police responded to the area of U.S. 50 and Kilby Road to escort Mondal to the St. Elizabeth Dearborn Hospital, where Stacy Mondal was pronounced dead.

Investigators say after learning of his wife’s death, Mondal said for the first time that she pointed the gun at him before she shot her.

The Hamilton County Ohio Coroner’s Office performed the autopsy, which indicated Stacy Mondal suffered seven gunshot wounds, all of which entered the left arm, side, shoulder, and torso of her body. The cause of death was listed as perforations to the heart, lung, and liver.

Mohammed Mondal remains in the Dearborn County Law Enforcement Center and was expected to make his initial appearance Thursday in Dearborn Circuit Court before Judge Aaron Negangard.
