The East Central Trojans opened the 2021 football season with a 34-6 victory over the Lawrenceburg Tigers at Dick Meador Stadium in Lawrenceburg Friday evening.  After a scoreless first quarter which saw Lawrenceburg dominate time of possession, the Trojans scored first on a 1-yard touchdown plunge by quarterback Carson Koelling early in the second quarter.  Sophie Browndyke’s extra point try was good to put East Central on top 7-0 with 9:00 to play in the first half.

The Tigers offense answered just five minutes later on a beautiful 41-yard touchdown pass from Garrett Yoon to running back Lucas Pierce.  The extra point attempt failed which left the Tigers trailing 7-6.  Sophomore Josh Ringer responded for the Trojans on a 10-yard scamper with 2:43 left to play in the half, and the Browndyke extra point made it 14-6.  The Trojan defense stepped up to get the ball back which led to Koelling’s second touchdown of the half on a 4-yard run with 23 seconds before intermission.  Browndyke’s extra point gave the Trojans a 21-6 halftime advantage.

The second half saw the East Central defense take control and hold the high powered Tiger offense scoreless.  While Ringer ran the ball relentlessly in the second half, it was EC teammate Eli Aston who found the end zone on two separate occasions.  Aston scored on a 17-yard strike from quarterback Cole Burton and then again on a five-yard run off a double handoff reverse late in the fourth quarter for the final touchdown of the game.  The extra point by Ryan Brotherton, filling in for the injured Browndyke, was good to make the final score 34-6.

East Central will host rival Harrison in the border war next Friday night which you can hear on WRBIradio.com or on your smart phone using the free TuneIn app.  Pregame show will be 7:10 pm with a 7:30 pm kickoff. Lawrenceburg with travel to Taylor, OH.
