Fire Chief: All Went Well During Eclipse Weekend

(Greensburg, IN) – Greensburg Fire Chief Nathan Stoermer says all went well both Sunday and Monday during the Total Solar Eclipse weekend.

He says they had very few requests for emergency services, but those were easily handled.

Stoermer adds all plans that were in place worked the way they should have.

“It became a great exercise in public event planning,” Stoermer said. “We also tried and did some things with our public safety partners as well cross jurisdictional between the county and the city, and we know that in Greensburg that we are prepared for an event and we can tackle and handle most any events that would happen.”

He says the unique thing is, the eclipse was an event in the sky as opposed to something taking place on the ground such as a concert. that not everyone viewing the celestial event was in one spot.

“We knew that going into it, we overprepared as we do in public safety,” Stoermer added. “We prepare for the worst and hope for the best and what happened was the best possible outcome.”

Chief Stoermer says one take away is local public safety agencies know they can set up a command post within an hour and mitigate an incident, if need be, and that they’re always looking for ways to improve.
