Family Displaced by House Fire

(Decatur County, IN) – A Decatur County family lost nearly everything they own in a three-alarm house fire Tuesday afternoon.

The New Point, Marion Township (Millhousen) and Napoleon fire departments were called shortly before 3 p.m. to the home on the 58-hundred block of South County Road 850 East.

Officials say the fire started in the basement and the initial cause is believed to be electrical in nature.

The flames were contained to the back of the home.

No humans were injured but the family cat perished in the fire.

Meanwhile, Morning Breeze Retirement Community in Greensburg is serving as a drop-off location between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. each day for clothing, household items and the family’s other necessities.
