Evelyn Wagner

Evelyn Anna Wagner, 100, formally of Sunman, died in her sleep on Monday, May 29, 2023, at her residence in Salem, Indiana.

Evelyn was born in Sunman on March 12, 1923, to William and Anna Reddert Rohls. She graduated from Sunman High School in the Class of 1941. Evelyn married the love of her life, Albert Wagner, on November 15, 1941, in Morris, Indiana. They spent more than fifty years together before Albert’s death on December 16, 1992. Besides being a home maker and mother, Evelyn worked at different jobs during her life and retired from Joann Fabrics in Columbus, Indiana, after many years of service. Evelyn loved quilting and made many quilts over the years and continued quilting until near the end of her life. She was a member of St. Stephens Lutheran Church and the Sunman Home Ec Club. Evelyn enjoyed growing flowers and gardening, going camping, playing games and being with her family.

Evelyn is survived by four children: Robert L. Wagner (Carol) of Hope, IN, Shirley Feist  (Jim) of Salem, IN, Jim Wagner (Sandy) of Sunman, Debra  Horstman (Jim) of Plainfield, IN; twelve grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother: Herbert Rohls; a sister: Bernice Pistner; a granddaughter: Gina Horstman; and a son: Terry Wagner.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, June 5, 2023, at Cook Rosenberger funeral home ~ 107 Vine Street ~ Sunman with Rev. Katherine Beckett officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stephens Lutheran Cemetery in Sunman. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephens Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.
