Her leadership has been instrumental in enhancing student performance and fostering a supportive learning environment.

“I am passionate about education and providing a holistic environment that caters to the social, emotional, and academic needs of all students,” Melanie stated. “I am excited to take on this new challenge and continue the excellent work that Mr. (Derik) Hutton (incoming South Ripley High School Principal) has started.”

Melanie’s dedication to education is evident in her extensive credentials and achievements. She earned her Principal Licensure from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2014, a Master’s of Education from IWU in 2002, and a Bachelor of Science from Northern Kentucky University in 1996. Melanie is also a proud alumna of South Ripley High School, graduating in 1990.

In her new role as Principal, Melanie plans to focus on enhancing teaching strategies to maintain high math and English scores. She also aims to build upon the foundation laid by Mr. Hutton in improving attendance rates and fostering a strong sense of community within the school. “I believe in the power of collaboration and community involvement,” Melanie added. “I am eager to work with the dedicated staff at SRJHS to ensure our students are well-prepared for their futures.”

Melanie’s vision for South Ripley includes creating K-12 opportunities for staff to strengthen curriculum alignment and share instructional strategies. With the upcoming ILEARN changes in the 2025-2026 school year, Melanie is committed to preparing the school community for success.

“We are thrilled to have Melanie Evans as our new Junior High School Principal,” said Superintendent Rob Moorhead. “Her passion for education, leadership skills, and deep connection to South Ripley make her the ideal candidate to lead our junior high school into the future.”
