Elmer “Dexter” Hurst

Elmer “Dexter” Hurst, 90, of Aurora, IN, passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025.

Dexter was born on December 3, 1934, in Knox Fork, KY, to the late James W. Hurst and Elsie (Brown) Hurst. He honorably served his country as a member of the United States Army.

A talented and hardworking man, Dexter dedicated his career to the construction industry. He was known for his exceptional work ethic and continued to work until the age of 84, always taking pride in his craft.

Dexter is survived by his sons, Steven Hurst of Indianapolis, IN, Gregory “Greg” Hurst of Aurora, IN, and James Hurst of Homosassa, FL; his siblings, Lois (Larry) Light of Nashville, TN, Ruby Hagenmeier of Erie, PA, and Pearl Nunn of Apple Valley, CA; grandchildren, Jesse, Zachary, and Jacob; and great-grandchildren, Katherine, Dexter, and Carter, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Elsie Hurst, and 9 siblings.

Friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, March 15, 2025, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the Rullman Hunger Funeral Home, 219 Mechanic Street, Aurora, Indiana. A Memorial Service will follow at 2:00 pm with Pastor Philip Gabbard officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Southeastern Indiana Honor Guard.

Interment will take place at a later date in Barbourville Cemetery.
