Ripley County, IN — A Bartholomew County man lost his life over the weekend, as a result of a two-vehicle accident that took place in Ripley County. Indiana State Police Troopers from the Versailles post are investigating the accident that took place Saturday afternoon at about 4 o’clock.
Troopers say that a vehicle driven by 68-year-old Rebecca Ashcraft, of Vevay, was northbound on State Road 129 near Benham Road in Ripley County when, for an unknown reason, she drove left of center and struck a southbound vehicle driven by 66-year-old Lenord Sheldon, Jr., of Elizabethtown.
As a result of the accident, Sheldon sustained fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Ripley County Coroner’s Office. A passenger in his vheicle, 59-year-old Beth Sheldon, suffered serious injuries and was taken by medical helicopter to the University of Cincinnati Hospital.
Ashcraft was transported to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville for treatment of minor injuries. The accident remains under investigation. Toxicology results are pending.
