East Central’s Caleb Merenthal has signed to play basketball for Indiana University East.  He also plans to major in business.

According to a release provided by East Central’s Jill Bingham, Mergenthal felt right at home when he visited the campus and was excited to receive an offer to play for them.

“The campus is so close to home which will allow me the opportunity to come home and visit often,” said Mergenthal.

East Central’s basketball program has been blessed by Caleb’s dedication to the team and their successes.  Coach David Disbro stated

“Caleb is a hard working student athlete both on and off the floor,” said Trojan boys varsity coach David Distro.  “He’s an extremely smart player who did a number of things to help us win games.  I am proud of him and expect him to continue to be a successful and hard working person.”

Caleb is a member of the National Honor Society and has been on the exemplary honor roll for four years with an impressive 3.768 GPA.  In basketball, Caleb has been named Team MVP, HBCA All-District, EIAC All-Conference, IBCA Honorable Mention Academic All-State, HBCA All-District 3 Team and All-County.  Caleb also won an IBCA scholarship for his outstanding work on the court.
