In a high school girls swimming Thursday, East Central defeated Milan 101 to 62.
Double individual event winners for the Trojans included Reagan Reany in the 200 and 500 frees, Sam Mittermeir in the 50 and 100 frees and also Tara Hall in the 100 fly and 100 back. Emily Hafertepen also won the 100 breast. EC claimed all three relays. Milan’s only individual winner was Ariel Haessig in the 200 IM.
Batesville traveled to New Castle to compete in a double dual against host New Castle and Eastern Hancock. The host Trojans scored 103, the Royals had 43 and the Bulldogs tallied 30.
Maria Lopez and Taylor Blanton led the way for BHS. Lopez finished third in the 200 IM and second in the 100 fly while Blanton took second in the 100 back and third in the 500 free.
“We really knocked off the cobwebs,” said fifth-year head coach Greg McMullen. “It was great to get back to racing, and seeing families back in the stands.
While the Bulldogs weren’t at full-strength, they were still able to fill every individual event and put up great times.
“While we normally aren’t looking for PR’s (personal records) in the first meet of the season, we’re always amazed when it happens,” said McMullen. Ella Dieterlen had some great swims and I’m so proud of how far she’s come since last season.”
Dieterlen’s efforts dropped her total time in both the 50 free and 100 backstroke by nine seconds.
