Unedited Batesville report from coach Curtis Miller: BHS Wrestling ended their regular season competing in the EIAC Conference Tournament. Despite only having only 9 wrestlers, 8 placed with all 8 placers winning their last match of the day leading to a 6th place finish. The bulldogs were able to capture 2 individual titles with Alex Murphy winning the 120 pound weight class while Josh Mobley won the 170 pound weight class. Murphy went 3-0 with 1 forfeit, 1 pin, and 13-3 major decision. In winning his semi finals match Murphy recorded his 100th victory of his career being the second bulldog to reach that mark this year. Josh Mobley had 2 pins and won his finals match with a 4-3 decision with a last second takedown to win the match. In winning his finals match Mobley reached his 113th victory making him 3rd in BHS history in career wins. The Bulldogs had 3 wrestlers finish 3rd. Damien Dance finished 3rd at 152 going 3-1 with 3 pins. Jy’lil Chappell also finished 3rd at 182 going 3-1 with 2 pins and a 10-5 decision in his 3rd place match. Unedited Rushville report from coach Jim Tush: Missing a few people because of illness and injury this week, the wrestlers headed to Franklin County to compete in our EIAC tournament.
Tuff Tackett started out the day beating Greensburg’s Shepherd and Lawrenceburg’s Payne. Payne had beaten Tuff earlier this year, but Tuff’s improved aggression on offense won him the match. Tuff finished the day as conference runner-up.
Also finishing as conference runner-up was Matthew Komlanc. Matthew beat Glandon from Batesville and Rorabacher from Lawrencburg to get to the finals.
Kian Nash and Aritz Gomez both had impressive wins earning them third place finishes, and Aaron Robinson earned a win against Gentry from South Dearborn.
There were many positive things that happened on the mat today. Our wrestlers are learning the importance of aggression in their matches. In all but two matches that we won today, we earned the first takedown. We were offensive on our feet instead of defensive. This comes with confidence that our young team is gaining with every match. I am excited to watch them continue to grow in tenacity for creating points on their feet.
Our next match is against Shelbyville, at Shelbyville, on Thursday, Jan. 20th, followed by sectionals at South Dearborn on Jan. 29th.
Go Lions!!
