Early Lead For Trojans Seals Fate For Bulldogs

The Bulldogs watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 12-7 loss to East Central on Thursday. East Central scored seven in the top of the first to secure the lead and Batesville never fully recovered.

Batesville and East Central each had 13 in the high-scoring affair.

Simon Williams earned the win for East Central. He lasted five innings, allowing eight hits and four runs while striking out six. Zach Henson and Gunnar Seig entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief.

Riley Zink took the loss for the Bulldogs. He allowed seven runs on four hits and walked one.

Batesville launched one home run on the day. Quinn Werner went yard in the first inning.

Trey Heidlage, Sam Voegele, Brayden Linkel, and Werner all managed multiple hits for Batesville. Heidlage led the Bulldogs with three hits in four at bats.

The loss puts Batesville at 4-4 for the season and 2-2 in the conference. The Bulldogs will travel to Kentucky this weekend for the Doc Morris Invitational.
