Southeastern IN — The search continues for a man accused of giving police the slip and stealing a Union County Sheriff’s vehicle.

45-year-old Steven T. Lakes allegedly stole a black Ford F-150 truck with Union County Sheriff’s Office decals.

Troopers at the Indiana State Police Pendleton Post say the vehicle was recovered in Shelbyville on Tuesday.

Lakes eluded police in Connersville a couple of days ago and was arrested in Liberty Tuesday morning.

ISP says during the arrest he was able to slip out of handcuffs and fled in the Union County Sheriff’s vehicle.

He was reportedly seen heading to Ripley County, wearing a black hoodie and black pants.

Lakes is 5 foot 6 and weighs about 145 pounds.

ISP says he no longer has the facial hair seen in the photo.

He is considered armed with a firearm that was in the stolen police vehicle and dangerous.

Police say if you see Lakes, do not approach him and to call local law enforcement or 9-1-1.
