Dr. Robert Roger Rock

Dr. Robert R. Rock, age 80 of Batesville, died Wednesday, August 22, 2018 in Cincinnati, OH surrounded by family. Born March 26, 1938 in Starke County (Knox), IN, he is the son of Hannah L. (Nee: Corey) and Forrest A. Rock. On September 7, 1974 he married Barbara Clark-Selke in Knox, IN.

Dr. Rock, also known as “Doc”, graduated from Indiana University School of Dentistry in 1963. He established his dental practice in Batesville and practiced for 37 years until his retirement in 2000. Doc loved IU basketball and was known to analyze every game he watched. He also enjoyed watching Big Ten basketball, football, golf and Nascar. He got a kick out of giving family and friends a hard-time about sports, especially if they were non-IU fans.

In addition to sports, Doc loved being outdoors mowing grass, gardening and taking care of his beloved home and property. Often times, he would refer to the view of his yard, pond and hillside to “the most beautiful place on Earth”. Like his father, he was a tinkerer and always had a solution to fixing anything. Doc also cherished his family, the values he instilled in them and all of the memories they made together. Although he was proud of his family, his greatest accomplishment was his contribution to pediatric dentistry.

Dr. Rock was dearly loved and will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife Barb of Batesville, IN, sisters Gloria Sanders of Monterey, IN and Susan (Tony) Herd of Logansport, IN. Sons Kevin (Jana) Selke of Batesville, IN and Terry Selke of Hamilton, OH. Grandchildren, Sammie (Brian) Hardebeck of Batesville, IN, Butch Selke of Hermosa, SD, Chad, Nathan (Kaitlin) and Luke Selke all of Hamilton, OH. One great-granddaughter, a great-grandson on the way and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, William Sanders of Monterey, IN.

Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 pm on Monday, August 27, 2018 followed by a memorial service at 7:00 pm all at Meyers Funeral Home in Batesville, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Batesville Fire & Rescue.
