Donald Ray Bowling

Donald Ray Bowling, 82, of Dillsboro, passed away Tuesday March 10, 2020 in Dillsboro, Indiana. Donald lived in Aurora for 50 years and moved to Dillsboro in 2017.

He was born March 13, 1937 in Williamstown, KY, son of the late Elige Bowling and Nancy (Spurlock) Bowling.
Donald served his country as a member of the United States Air Force.

He was a Rising Sun High School graduate. Donald worked as a Route Auditor for Coca-Cola, retiring after over 28 years of service. He was with the Aurora Fire Department from 1964-1975, and was the Chief from 1972-1975.

He was an avid reader, his favorite Author was the Western Novelist, Louis L’Amour. He loved the outdoors, especially fishing or just tinkering in the garage. His family was very important to him, he especially enjoyed the large family gatherings and he will be greatly missed.

Donald is survived by his loving spouse of 62 years, Winnifred Wittke Bowling; children, Chris Bowling of Dillsboro, IN, Brian (Diane) Bowling of Rising Sun, IN, Mark (Dianna) Bowling of Cary, IL, Jerlyn (formerly Chipman) Ziegler of Lawrenceburg, IN, Joan (formerly Randall) (Keith) Gordon of Dillsboro, IN, Karen (Mike) Helmle of Petersburg, KY; 22 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nine siblings.

Friends will be received Tuesday, March 17, 2020, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 203 Fourth Street, Aurora, Indiana.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 pm at the church with Father Ben Syberg officiating.

Interment will follow in the Rising Sun New Cemetery, Rising Sun, Indiana. Aurora Fire Department will be honoring Donald with services at the cemetery. Military graveside services will be conducted by members of local Veterans Service Organizations.
