Donald R. Swart of Rising Sun, born January 13, 1949, passed away at his home on June 9, 2023. He is survived by his wife Nancy; son, Mike (Ginger), and daughter, Kassie (Terry); also four grandchildren Julia, Ben, Maren, and Sam. Sister, Mary (Doon) and brother Sybrand (Kathy). He was preceded in death by his brother John.
Don was a Vietnam veteran who served in the Marine Corps from 1968-1970.
Don was a family man who loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. They meant the world to him. He recently celebrated fifty years of marriage. As an avid outdoorsman, Don shared his knowledge and experience with others through teaching search and rescue courses and leading a Boy Scout Troop. Don loved caving and assisted in mapping caves and collecting water samples for research. Don was named a Kentucky Colonel for his service as a search and rescue instructor. His handiwork during his years of remodeling is evident in many Ohio County homes.
Because Don celebrated life, no formal funeral service is being planned; instead, he will be honored with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the National Speleological Society, the Boy Scouts of America, or Lonestar Preserve. Markland Funeral Home of Rising Sun, IN serving the family.
