Donald Nelson “Donnie” Alford, 81, of Rising Sun, IN, on Monday, January 22nd, 2024 at The Waters of Rising Sun. Don was born in Cincinnati, OH on October 22, 1942, a son of the late Freda Marie (Slack) Alford and Ernest Dewey Alford. He spent most of his childhood in Switzerland County and was a 1960 graduate of Vevay High School. Don married Patricia A. (Lostutter) Alford on December 20th, 1963. Don and Pat were married over 38 years until her passing on September 11th, 2002. Don worked in the shipping department at Monsanto, and then later Bayer. He retired after 39 years of service. Don and Pat loved music and enjoyed traveling to Renfro Valley and other places to attend concerts. Don was a good bowler and was on a league for several years. He also loved to play softball in his younger days. Don was affectionately known as “High Dollar” to many of his friends and was known for his kind and friendly nature.
Don is survived by his loving daughter, Michelle Otter and husband Jeff, of Rising Sun, IN; by his beloved grandchildren, Kayla Thayer and husband Cody, Karen Gnessin and husband Ryan and Kevin Otter; by his cherished great grandchildren, Jameson and Oliver and by many cousins, other family members and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents, by his wife Pat, by his son Mikey Alford in 1984, by an infant sister and by his brother in law, Bobby Lostutter.
Funeral services will be 11:00 AM, Friday, January 26th, 2024 at the Markland Funeral Home in Rising Sun, IN with Shane White officiating. Visitation will be held 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, January 25th at Markland Funeral Home. Burial will be at Rising Sun New Cemetery.
