Greensburg, In. — The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office is issuing a word of caution to the public about a bail bond scam.
Sheriff David Durant says individuals appear to be specifically targeting elderly residents by convincing them that their family member is in jail. The caller then will ask the victim to provide money in the form of gift cards, cash, bank routing information, green dot cards, etc. to get their loved one out of jail.
Sheriff Durant says a law enforcement office will NEVER contact you requesting any type of payment on behalf of an individual that is incarcerated. There are specific procedures in place to bond out incarcerated individuals.
Please be aware of subjects asking you for personal information or bank information.
