(Decatur County, IN) – A 36-year-old Decatur County man is behind bars following his arrest in connection with a battery involving family members at a home on South County Road 150 East late Sunday night.

The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office says the victim left the home and went to another after the incident around 11 p.m., and a deputy was told by the victim that Bryce D. Wesseler slapped him in the face, put his arms around him before forcibly putting him on a couch, and broke his finger.

Authorities say the deputy noticed the victim had a red swollen face and his hand and arms were bleeding.

Four deputies then went to Wesseler’s home and spoke to him in the kitchen.

Investigators say that’s where Wesseler grabbed a 10-inch long knife from the countertop and was ordered to drop it.

He put the knife back on the counter and was told he was under arrest.

A struggle ensued while deputies tried to handcuff Wesseler, who was finally cuffed and taken to the Decatur County Detention Center.

Deputies say the knife turned out to be plastic with a very real appearance.

Wesseler has been charged with Intimidation (Level 5 felony), Domestic Battery, and Resisting Law Enforcement (both Level 6 felonies).
