Decatur County BZA Tables Solar Company’s Special Exception Petition

(Greensburg, IN) – The Decatur County Board of Zoning Appeals tabled action Wednesday night on RWE Clean Energy’s request for a special exception to place commercial solar energy facilities on several parcels of land north of Greensburg in Washington and Clinton townships.

Attorney Paul Wyman of Kokomo represents petitioner Francisco Galeano and RWE, and says – contrary to popular believe – property values near such facilities actually go up.

“If I follow any of the real estate trends over the last 10 to 15 years, I compare it against the property values studies that we do, real estate values have followed the exact same trends,” said Wyman. And so, that’s good for these projects’ areas, that’s good for home owners, and is good for buyers as well to know that value is maintained.”

Fort Wayne-based attorney Jason Kuchmay represents more than 30 adjacent property owners, and is disappointed the matter was tabled.

“There’s a lot of information they need to digest before they make a decision, and we were certainly hoping for a decision tonight,” Kuchmay said.

The meeting lasted three-and-a-half hours and was moved to the Greensburg High School auditorium to accommodate an anticipated large crowd.

BZA members are expected to take up RWE’s petition again at the September 4 meeting.
