Decatur Co. Crash Claims One; Injures Another

GREENSBURG – A 71-year-old man was killed and a woman was injured in a three vehicle accident on I-74 Wednesday afternoon. The crash occurred at mile marker 124 just before 5:00 p.m.

According to the Greensburg Daily News, Delbert Miller, of St. Paul, was traveling westbound in a 1999 Jeep Wrangler when it crossed the median striking an SUV operated by Dixie Wright-Marksberry, 33, of Burlington, Kentucky.

Miller was reportedly seen approaching in the passing lane and swerving into the median.

Ryan Hornsby, 34, of Holton, struck the axle of the jeep after the impact of the first two vehicles.

Police say Miller was thrown from his vehicle and died as a result of injuries.

A ruptured gas tank led to the jeep catching fire. A trucker passing by used a fire extinguisher to put out the blaze.

Decatur County Sheriff Greg Allen told the newspaper that several people provided aid before emergency services arrived.

The SUV driven by Wright-Marksberry flipped after the impact. She was airlifted to St. Vincent Hospital due to possible leg and head injuries.

Hornsby was not injured.

Both eastbound lanes were closed for over an hour, police said.
