Deadline to apply for Statehouse internships is coming up

(Statehouse) – The October 31 deadline for college students and recent graduates to apply for a paid Statehouse internship is quickly approaching.

State Rep. Alex Zimmerman (R-North Vernon) and former Statehouse intern Alex Zimmerman says interning during the 2024 session is a great way to get paid, network, and build valuable skills.

“I remember walking nervously into the Statehouse for the first time as an intern and wondering what the future may hold. And now, I serve as a representative for Southeast Indiana. Knowing firsthand how the experience can positively impact a young student, I certainly encourage others to apply for this internship. I look forward to meeting our 2024 session interns and welcoming them to the Statehouse in January,” Zimmerman said.

“Making business connections is an important stepping stone for anyone looking to launch their career,” said State Rep. Lindsay Patterson (R-Brookville). “By interning at the Statehouse, young Hoosiers can meet and network with leaders and employers from across the state.”“Intern positions are open to students with different backgrounds and varying interests,” said State Rep. Jennifer Meltzer (R-Shelbyville). “As interns work with members of the media, help constituents or research different topics, they will build their confidence, develop new skills, and add to their portfolio of work.”“This is a great chance for any student looking to get ahead in the competitive job market,” said State Rep. Randy Lyness (R-West Harrison). “Those who go through this program walk away with a unique experience and plenty to put on their resumes.”

Indiana House interns are paid $900 bi-weekly while working in downtown Indianapolis from January through mid-March.

In addition, there is free parking as well as scholarship opportunities.

The application is open to college sophomores, juniors, seniors, recent graduates, and graduate students of all majors.
