David John Bischoff, age 74 of Batesville, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2026, at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born December 14, 1951, he is the son of Robert and Mary Helen (Nee: Sauerland) Bischoff. He married Mary Kathleen Clayton on December 20, 1975, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Dave was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #1461.
Dave graduated from Batesville High School in 1970 and went on to attend Manatee Junior College in Sarasota, Florida, where he continued to pursue his love of baseball. His talent and dedication to the game led him to play in the minor leagues for the Kansas City Royals organization for two years.
Following his baseball career, Dave began what would become a 25-year career with Phillips Supply Co. in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a dedicated and successful salesman, earning the honor of Salesman of the Year in 1987. He eventually retired from Phillips, leaving behind a career marked by hard work, commitment, and the relationships he built along the way.
Dave was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed playing softball with the organization. He also loved the outdoors and found great joy in golfing, fishing, and hunting. Above all, Dave treasured being surrounded by his family and friends. He especially loved his grandchildren, who held a very special place in his heart. The love, laughter, and memories they shared with him will be cherished forever.
His children will carry his love forward. His grandchildren will carry his stories. His friends will remember his smile. And everyone who knew him will remember the genuine, good-hearted man he was.
He is survived by his wife Mary of Batesville; son Corey (Charlotte) Bischoff of Carmel, Indiana; daughters Lindsey (Jared) Schornick and Taylor Schmidt, both of Batesville; grandchildren Emma Lynn and Brady Bischoff, Nathan, Jacob, and Lillian Schornick, Scarlett, Evelyn, and Elsie Schmidt; brothers Robert (Pat) Bischoff of Greensburg, Indiana, Tom (Mary Pat) Bischoff of Hebron, Kentucky, Richard (Ida) Bischoff of Sunman, Indiana, Larry Bischoff of Palaski, Tennessee, Albert (Marcia) Bischoff, Gene (Becky) Bischoff, and Jim (Cindy) Bischoff, all of Batesville.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother Gerald Bischoff.
Visitation is Sunday, September 13th, from 1 – 4 p.m., at Weigel Funeral Home in Batesville. A Mass of Christion Burial will be held Monday, September 14th, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Louis Catholic Church, with Fr. Jayaraju officiating.
