(Greensburg, IN) – Decatur County Commissioners on Monday read and adopted a data center moratorium.
It prevents data centers with a capacity of 250 megawatts or more from applying to build and operate in the county.
The measure took effect immediately upon commissioners’ action.
It doesn’t apply to facilities annexed into a city, and an alternative energy moratorium for solar and wind project already on the books is still in effect.
In addition, the moratorium does not affect petitions, applications or filings already presented to the county before the measure was enacted.
The data center moratorium is set to expire at 5 p.m. on December 31 of this year, but may be extended if the county’s Comprehensive Plan has not been adopted by then.
